Frequently Asked Questions

Parents

Q: How do the online sessions work?

A: Project Pals connects K-8th graders with high schoolers over Google Meet once a week for fun sessions on a variety of topics. We pair one volunteer with one child for one-on-one sessions to ensure that the child is able to grow and does not have to start over with a new volunteer for each session.

Q: How do I sign my kid up?

A: Click here to sign your child up.

Q: What regions do the kids and volunteers come from?

A: We currently have kids and volunteers from over ten different states in the United States!

Q: Are there any restrictions to signing my kid up?

A: All kids must be between entering kindergarten and 8th grade. Currently we only work with dominantly English speaking volunteers and kids, but we are working on expanding the languages soon.

Q: Can parents join in on the sessions?

A: Parents are more than welcome to join the online sessions with their kids.

Q: Can I request a type of session that is not listed as a class?

A: If you have any suggestions, feel free to contact our gmail: info@project-pals.org and if it’s highly requested, we can add it as a new type.

Q: How do Project Pals ensure that they are selecting volunteers who will maintain safe and positive behavior towards my child?

A: Our volunteers complete an extensive form where they are required to write about their past experiences with helping their community and their interest in applying to our program. Then, they are required to send a photo of their school ID card to us, as a form a verifying that they are high schoolers. Finally, all volunteers agree and sign our Volunteer Code of Conduct

Volunteers

Q: How old do I need to be to volunteer with Project Pals?

A: We are accepting incoming high school freshman to seniors.

Q: What times do I need to be available for sessions?

A: As a volunteer, you work with the parents/child (with help from us if needed) to create a schedule that fits day to day life for both parties. Each session is one hour, and we try to limit sessions per child to once a week.

Q: Can I earn volunteer hours?

A: As of now, Project Pals is a student led organization that is going through the process to become a nonprofit organization with the 501(c)(3) status. We will record your hours from the very start of your volunteering at Project Pals and officially certify the total hours once we become a nonprofit. To request signatures or other forms of verification for volunteer hours, please email info@project-pals.org.
